I was downtown in Cincinnati for New Year's Eve making the obligatory stop at Findlay Market and decided to see if there were any bookstores open. Lo and behold not only was there one open but it was a recently opened one (2021) that I had yet to visit! It was a quick trip before closing time so not much for this first entry.

Joy and Matt's Bookshop is located at 1515 Vine St.. It's several blocks from Findlay Market but a very reasonable walk.

The bookstore is quite a tiny one even for a local independent bookstore. What it lacks in size it makes up for in coziness! From their web site it sounds like they have some intention to expand the size as business allows. It is however a well organized shop, makes good use of the space to pack in a great many books, and definitely has a personal touch of decor that you would expect in an independent bookstore...including some interesting art work. The book selection feels like a well curated selection of books with a wide range of topics including Philosophy, Sci-Fi, Fantasy, History, Religion, Mystery, Drama, and more with a small local authors section on maybe two small shelves( 20-30 books) by the checkout. 

If you are in town for a Bengals game, Reds game, or on business, the The Cincinnati Bell Connector has a stop near Liberty and Race that will drop you within two blocks of the store so stop in and check it out!
